john clapham & company: how to commission a sculpture

If you are interested to commission an original (bespoke) sculpture listed below is our general approach to the commissioning process. As every project differs exact details may vary. firstly, please undertake the following steps and feedback to us via our contact page.

1. Visit the sculptors page on our website to view our sculptors’ profiles. In conjunction with the aforementioned please also visit our interior/garden/corporate & public sculpture pages. This will assist you to decide which one of our sculptors is the most suitable to create the sculpture you require. When you have decided let us know (1) your sculptor of choice and (2) the material you require for the fabrication of your sculpture - bronze, glass & steel, stainless steel, or stone.

2. Send us an outline sketch of your idea for the sculpture and the approximate dimensions. the sculptors we represent are very creative people. They will not copy your sketch. Rather they will develop your sketch in consultation with you so that it is best suited for the location/environment where the sculpture is to be installed.

3. If the sculpture is for a corporate or landscape purpose, please send us any plans/drawings, visuals for the project so that we/our sculptors can understand the location and the environment where the sculpture will be installed. We will treat your plans/drawings/visuals in confidence.

4. Please give us an idea of your budget.

5. Please tell us your timeline for the completion and installation of the sculpture.

6. Once we receive all the above information from you it we will sent to your sculptor of choice with a request to provide a ballpark, no obligation quotation.

7. If you decide you want your sculptor of choice to make drawings of thier ideas for your review, please note they will require a deposit which will be deducted from the sculptor’s final invoice in the event you complete your purchase.

8. If/when you agree the sculptor’s proposals and timeline for completion of your sculpture the sculptor will provide a final quotation for your decision.

Once the concept and timeline have been agreed and a deposit has been paid fabrication will begin in the sculptor’s studio. We will keep you informed of progress as the fabrication moves along.

Important note: as our sculptor’s representative we represent them in all negotiatons & creative discussions with the client. furthermore, upon provision of invoices all payments from the client are made directly to our sculptors’ accounts.
